Parent information for Y5 Sex and Relationship Lessons

Over the next two weeks, children in Sycamore Class will have several lessons about growing up and relationships. These lessons will be taught as a class by Miss Rouke and Mr Read using the Twinkl scheme of learning.

The lessons will recap the information that the children covered in Year 4 and go further to learn about:

Objectives we will recap in more detail:

  • How our bodies change as we grow up:
    • Body hair
    • Sweat more and greasy hair (importance of hygiene, washing regularly and deodorant)
    • Spots
  • Emotional changes and mood swings (including how to manage these emotions and where to seek advice and support)

New objectives we will cover:

  • Puberty, including specific changes for boys and girls as they grow older.
  • Similarities and differences between how boys and girls experience puberty.
  • Menstruation

We will also over the PANTs lesson from the NSPCC about keeping our private parts, private.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please speak to Miss Rouke.
