Participation Responsibility Independence Determination Excellence

Welcome to our school - full of happy, hard-working children and teachers. We want every child to participate fully, respect other people, be independent and determined in achieving excellence.

Science

High-quality Science education provides foundations for understanding the world. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity. Through building key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They should be encouraged to understand how key knowledge and concepts can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. This understanding should be consolidated through their appreciation of applications of Science in society and the economy.

Intentions:

• To stimulate and excite a child’s curiosity about natural phenomena and events in the world around them.

• Enable children to understand how major scientific ideas contribute toward technological change – impacting industry, medicine, business, and improving quality of life.

• To question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, the directions of society and the future of the world.

Science Week 2024 - Ditch the Dirt

It was super exciting in school this week with all children investigating Time as part of Science Week. The Junior children took part in a challenge that is also being taken on by Duffield Meadows, Curzon, Cutthorpe and Kniveton Primary Schools. The challenge was called Ditch the Dirt, time for clean water. The children had to design a filtration system to clean dirty water. This is part of a wider project from Practical Action aimed at reducing inequalities around the world. The challenge has been sponsored by the Derby Paediatric Conference and a winning team from each school will attend the conference in June to receive their award.
