Welcome to Puma Class (Year 5)
Welcome to Year 5! Please take a look at the slideshow to see all the brilliant learning that has taken place this term. We're enjoying learning all about North America and are building up to planning a road trip around the USA.
In English, we've been retelling the story of an irritated crab who has been disturbed by an 'unknown' object. Some pictures show our freeze frames as we stepped into the character of the crab, before writing up the story in our own words. We then created information texts about animals of Yellowstone, before choosing an animal of our choice to apply our writing skills to. Some of us even created our own animals from scratch!
We've been building up our resilience in Maths this term by recapping key skills from Year 4 and developing these in Year 5. The children have been using manipulatives brilliantly to show their understanding of place value and the four operations!
Art and science have been two other subjects we've been thoroughly enjoying. We've learnt about American artist Winslow Homer and used his techniques as inspiration for our own art. In science, we've been learning about materials and their properties, which we will continue next term.

Weekly Routines
Monday – Reading journals checked and homework in. Please note if your child needs a little extra support from us in school on the homework.
Wednesday – Homework sent home in folders and PE day. A maths and English task will be set each week. An overview of the spelling rules for the term will be put at the start of each folder too.
Thursday - Forest schools. Half of the class take part one term and alternate the next. Children will have a letter outlining what they need to bring to wear on the day.
Friday - spelling test will be administered weekly or biweekly. Children will practise a rule and words in school over the week and have an informal test each Friday.
