Autumn 1 - Roaming in the Rainforest

 

Welcome to Year 2! Our main theme this half term is ‘The Rainforest’. This topic will be exploring the geography aspect of how the Amazon Rainforest is different to England. We will also be carrying out dance, music and art work related to the Rainforest and Brazil. This topic will also cover the science aspect of animals.

Autumn 2 - The Great Fire of London

 

 

 

Our main theme this half term is ‘The Great Fire of London’. This topic will be exploring the history and events of The Great Fire of London. We will also be carrying out some investigations into the fire through science, design and technology.

This half term will begin with a week of Remembrance, showing our respect to and remembering those who fought for us and our country. The children will be learning about Remembrance, why we remember and visiting the memorial in the park.

This half term also welcomes Christmas, which will be celebrated throughout the school and will of course hold the Christmas production.

The children recreated the city of London before The Great Fire London. They thought about why the houses caught fire, the feelings of the people and the importance of restructure and rebuilding.

Spring 1 - UK Countries

 

Our main theme this half term is ‘UK Countries’. This topic will explore map skills, fact finding and lots of comparisons of the UK and different countries. The children have already taken a walk around the local area, using their map knowledge and using Bee-Bots to travel around the map. They will move onto looking at towns, villages and cities plus learn about UK countries.

 

 

Spring 2 - Castles!

 

Our main theme this half term is ‘Castles’. This topic will see us discovering the history of castles, the science behind them and their structures as well as the children making their very own drawbridge castle! With the focus being on castles this half term, we are going to be taking a trip to Tamworth Castle where the children will be able to explore and become a part of castle life as it used to be! We can’t wait to get started and the children will be expanding their skills and knowledge across many of the curriculum subjects.

Summer 1 - Plants and Animals

 

Our main theme this half term is ‘Plants and Animals’. This topic will see the children learning about life cycles, seeds and bulbs, living things and their habitats and the different classifications of animals including food chains. We will be designing and building a minibeast hotel, observing the fantastic nature surrounding us and learning all about how and why animals and plants grow, survive and develop through the life processes. This topic will allow the children to really get their teeth stuck into the science objectives of the national curriculum.

Summer 2 - Beside the Seaside

 

Our main theme this half term is ‘Beside the Seaside’. It will be jam-packed full of historical information regarding the seaside, seaside research and the making of our very own seaside puppets. We will be covering some of the history, Art and Design Technology objectives of the National Curriculum where children will develop many research, planning and evaluation skills across many of the curriculum subjects. This term will also see our last school trip as Year 2’s to ‘Wheel Gate’ which will be filled with fun, laughter and enjoyment.
